How “Weeks of Welcome” Help You Find Your People
Starting college means meeting hundreds of new faces in just a few days. That’s exciting, but let’s be honest, it can also feel overwhelming.
The good news? No one expects you to find all your friends during orientation.
That’s exactly why Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ extends the welcome beyond move-in day with Weeks of Welcome (WOW), a series of activities designed to help you gradually settle into campus life, meet new people and discover where you belong.
Why Weeks of Welcome Exist
Orientation gives you the basics to start making The Heights feel like home: where to go, who to meet and how to get started.
Weeks of Welcome gives you something just as important: time.
Rather than expecting students to build friendships in a weekend, WOW offers opportunities throughout your first few weeks on campus to connect with classmates, try new experiences and become part of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ community at your own pace.
There’s a lot for you to learn at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ. There’s a lot to navigate. There’s a lot of people to meet. We know it can’t all happen in just two days. Through Weeks of Welcome, you’ll have opportunities to gradually take part in new activities and meet other people as you go.
Your First Events on The Heights
Faith, Food & Fireworks
One of the first WOW traditions is Faith, Food & Fireworks.
The evening begins with an outdoor Mass on the Grass for those who wish to participate, followed by food trucks and a fireworks celebration that brings the campus community together before classes begin. It’s one of the first opportunities to relax, meet new people and celebrate the start of your Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ journey.
Finding Your Community
The first few weeks are also when you’ll discover the organizations, activities and traditions that make campus feel like home.
One of the highlights is the annual Club Fair, where dozens of student organizations gather on the Quad to introduce new students to everything from academic clubs and service organizations to recreation, leadership opportunities and special interests. If you don’t have time to stop at every table, you can also explore clubs anytime.
Give Yourself Permission to Explore
You don’t need to have everything figured out during your first week.
Try a club that matches one of your interests. Attend an event simply because it sounds fun. Introduce yourself to someone sitting next to you at lunch. Say yes to something unexpected.
College isn’t just about finding the perfect major. It’s also about finding your people.
Weeks of Welcome is designed to help you do both.
